CommentSynonymy and subspecies mainly after PETERS & OREJAS-MIRANDA 1970.

Types: The holotype of Dromicus frenatus PETERS 1863: 278 (ZMB 2126) was formerly thought to be lost, but is present.

Distribution: not in Venezuela (Luis Esqueda, pers. comm., 21 April 2016, see also Natera-Mumaw et al. 2015). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin lateris, side; flank and Latin striga, row or strip of anything. [“...striga laterali a naso versus caudam alba..."]. (from Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., May 2024)
