Type locality: Nase, Amani O-shima, Loo Choo Islands, Japan [werneri].

DiagnosisDiagnosis: Similar to Achalinus spinalis, but with more numerous urosteges (eighty-eight to ninety-six). (Van Denburgh 1912: 8) 
CommentSynonymy fide A. Hagedorn and R. Goris (pers. comm.) 
EtymologyProbably named after Franz Werner (1867-1939), Austrian zoologist. See Antonius 1939 for biographical notes. This species is classified as “near threatened” in Japan (Ota 2000).
