CommentSubspecies: Anotosaura collaris vanzolinia (DIXON 1974) is now considered as a valid species.

Type species: Anotosaura collaris AMARAL 1933 is the type species of the genus Anotosaura AMARAL 1933.

Abundance: very rare; only a few specimens are known (Rodrigues et al. 2013). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin collaris, collar, neckband; chain for neck. (AMARAL 1933, Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., April 2024)

The genus was named after Greek a- (α-), privative partícle + Greek notos (νῶτος), back, dorsum + Greek sauros (σαῦρος), lizard.
