TypesHolotype: KUZ 13223, adult male 
DiagnosisDiagnosis (genus): A relatively small agamid lizard with a snout-vent length (SVL) of < 80 mm and a tail about twice as long, which resembles Pseudocalotes species in general habitus. Easily distinguishable from these and all other agamid lizard genera by the combination of the following characters: gular sac with lateral pockets and granulated scales, crests on neck, back and along the median line of the gular pouch present, dorsals heterogeneous and tympanum visible (Manthey & Denzer 2019: 8). 
CommentType species: Calotes nigrigularis OTA & HIKIDA 1991 is the type species of the genus Complicitus MANTHEY & GROSSMANN 1997.

Abundance: only known from the type locality (Meiri et al. 2017) and from 3 specimens (Manthey & Denzer 2019). 
EtymologyNamed after the black coloration of the throat, from Latin niger, nigra, nigrum = black, and Latin gula = throat, also for esophagus.
