TypesLectotype: BMNH xv. 5a, from Australia. Designation by Wells & Wellington (1985)
Holotype: MMUS (not found), from vicinity of the Herbert River, Qld. [Hinulia picta].
Syntypes: QM J 1186-7, from Rockhampton and Johnstone River, Qld. [Tiliqua longicauda].

CommentSynonymy partly after COGGER 1983.

Type species: Hinulia gerrardii GRAY 1845: 75 is the type species of the genus Hemisphaeriodon PETERS 1867. 
EtymologyNamed after Edward Gerrard (1810-1910), attendant in Gray's departtnent at the British Museum (1841-1896).
