CommentSynonymy: The name Coluber boiga Lacepède 1789 has been invalidated (ICZN 1958 Opinion 525).

Distribution: Populations from India through Myanmar are now considered D. proarchos. Reported from but not listed for the Andaman Islands by DAS 1999. See also D. andamanensis. Reports from Nicobar Islands represent Dendrelaphis humayuni. Not in Mizoram; reports likely represent misidentifications or older reports. In Mizoram it is replaced by D. proarchos (HT Lalremsanga, pers. comm., 5 Feb 2021). Not in Hong Kong fide Francis 2021. Indonesia: Reports from Sulawesi actually represent D. marenae (fide A. Koch, pers. comm., 18 July 2018). Nugraha et al. 2018 found genetically distinct population in Sumatra and Java that may be split off as separate species in the future. Some Indonesian islands east of Wallace's Line are listed (e.g. Ambon) despite those forms having been removed from D. pictus (Vogel & van Rooijen 2008a,b; 2011) -- this needs correction. Not in the Philippines (although reported from Palawan and Sulu Archipelago, Calamian Islands, Panay, Luzon, e.g. Taylor 1922) fide Leviton et al. 2018. Not on Panay (M. Gaulke, pers. comm., 26 Dec 2012).

Subspecies: Dendrelaphis pictus andamanensis (ANDERSON 1871) has been elevated to full species status.

Behavior: diurnal

Habitat: fully arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018)
