CommentSimilar species: Gekko petricolus is closely related to G. badenii.

Group: The Gekko petricolus group currently contains 10 species, namely G. boehmei, badenii, canaensis, flavimaritus, grossmanni, lauhachindai, petricolus, russelltraini, takouensis, and G. vietnamensis (Meesook et al. 2021).
This group shares a combination of characters including: 82.9–108.5 mm snout–vent length (SVL); nares in contact with rostral; three nasals; postmentals relatively large; 8–18 dorsal tubercle rows; 8–15 precloacal pores; 1–3 postcloacal tubercles; the webbing between fingers and toes absent or weakly developed; lateral fold without tubercles; enlarged subcaudals; head with blotches or short stripes or without pattern; and dorsum with bands or more or less symmetrical blotches (Ngo et al. 2009; Panitvong et al. 2010; Ngo and Gamble 2011; Rösler et al. 2011; Luu et al. 2015, Rujirawan et al. 2019).
