Reproduction	oviparous.
Types	Holotype: nondesignated (IVERSON 1992: 123)
Diagnosis
Comment	OTANI et al. (1995) reported hybrids between M. japonica and Cuora flavomarginata and between Geoemyda japonica and C. flavomarginata. This species is classified as “vulnerable” in Japan (Ota 2000). Karyotype: 2n = 52 (Nakamura 1949)
Etymology	Named after the type locality.
