Diagnosis 
CommentSubspecies: Hemidactylus maculatus hunae DERANIYAGALA 197 has been elevated to full species status.

Original description in Amarasinghe et al. 2009.

Distribution: see map in Srinivasulu et al. 2018: 38 (Fig. 7). Reports from Tamil Nadu and Kerala may represent other (or yet undescribed) species after H. maculatus s. l. has been split up into multiple species (e.g. see map in Srinivasulu 2018).

Group: The Hemidactylus maculatus species complex consists of 11 species: H. maculatus, hunae, graniticolus, acanthopholis, kangerensis, kimbulae, sushilduttai, paaragowli, siva, vanam, kolliensis (Amarasinghe et al. 2021).

Characters: Amarasinghe et al. 2021 provide a character table for the 10 species of the maculatus complex (Table 1).
