Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy: Has previously been synonymized with H. gaudichaudii

Distribution: Not in Uruguay (Daniel Pincheira-Donoso, pers. comm., 19 Feb 2013). For maps of species distributions see Vanzolini 1968: 97 (Map 6).

Type species: Homonota darwinii BOULENGER 1885: 21 is the type species of the genus Homonota GRAY 1845: 171 (fide WERMUTH 1965: 92)

Groups. Homonota has been divided into 3 groups: the whitii group (Homonota
darwinii, H. williamsii, H. whitii, and H. andicola), the borellii group (H. borellii, H. taragui, H. rupicola, and H. uruguayensis) and the horrida group (H. horrida, H. underwoodi, H. septentrionalis, and H. marthae) (Cabral & Cacciali 2021). 
EtymologyNamed after Charles Robert Darwin (1809-1882), author of “On the Origin of Species ...”.
