auffenbergi: Pakistan (Mansehra Besham and Kohistan districts, Northwestern Frontier Province); Type locality: Besham, Distr. Swat, Northwest Frontier Province, Pakistan, 35° 55’ N, 72° 55’ E, 700 m elevation.

pakistanica: Pakistan; Type locality: “Jaglotgah (Gilgit; FANA) 36°20'N, 74°S0'E, elevation 2,100 m”

TypesHolotype: PMNH 0134, a male, collected on August 6, 1986; Paratypes: ZFMK
Holotype: ZFMK 54468 (erroneously given as 54469 in original description), male; Paratypes: ZFMK, PMNH [khani]
Holotype: ZFMK 54471, male; Paratypes: ZFMK 54472, male, Pattan, NWFP, collected on 8 July 1990; ZFMK 54473, male, Thalcot, NWFP, collected on 15 June 1990; all specimens collected by K J. BAIG; PMNH [auffenbergi] 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: This species is most closely related to A. agrorensis and A. melanura.
The jet black colour, number of labials, body and callose scalation suggest that it is neither agrorensis nor melanura or any other species of Agama. [from BAIG 1989]. 
Comment 
Etymologynamed after the type locality.The two subspecies have been named after herpetologists M.S. Khan (Pakistan) and Walter Auffenberg (USA).
