DiagnosisDiagnosis: Within the Liolaemus darwinii complex, adult males of Liolaemus abaucan may be distinguished from L. darwinii, L. olongasta and L. laurenti in lacking intensely dark pigment within the antehumeral fold, from L. quilmes, L. ornatus, L. irregularis and L. uspallatensis in having the postscapular spots enlarged; and, from L. ornatus and L. irregularis in having precloacal pores in 10 per cent or fewer of the females rather than more than 95 per cent, and a very different dorsal pattern (Etheridge 1993: 165). 
CommentMember of the darwinii group of Liolaemus. 
EtymologyThe name is in reference to the valley ofthe Rio Abaucan in western Catamarca Province, to which this species apparently is restricted.
