Type locality: Fitzroy Island and Endeavour River, Queensland.

TypesLectotype: AMS (AM) R42733 (formerly MAMU R632), Fitzroy Island, Qld. Designation by Kluge (1963). 
Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy: Has also been considered as synonym of Gymnodactylus (Nactus) pelagicus, e.g. by RÖSLER 2000. 
EtymologyNamed after the ship Chevert, which Sir William John Macleay bought and used for his expedition to New Guinea (1875).
