CommentType species: Nephrurus asper GÜNTHER 1876 is the type species of the genus Nephrurus GÜNTHER 1876.

Caudal autotomy: Bauer & Russell surveyed autotomy in carphodactylid geckos, including Nephrurus. 
EtymologyNamed after Latin “asper(a)” = rough.
