Diagnosis
CommentSynonymy partly after KHALIKOV & ANANJEVA (pers. comm.). Not listed as such by DAS 1996. BOULENGER 1885 synonymized Agama ocellata LICHTENSTEIN 1823 with P. guttatus. GOLUBEV (1991) stated that this name is the senior synonym for Phrynocephalus reticulatus Eichwald, 1831. Therefore he placed the junior name in the synonymy of the resurrected Phrynocephalus ocellatus (Lichtenstein In Eversmann, 1823). However, the name reticulatus has now been consistently used for more than one century by many authors, and should be protected (BARABANOV & ANANJEVA 2007).

Distribution: SMITH (1935) questions the record from Ladakh. SINDACO & JEREMCENKO 2008 also state that records from the Fergana Valley and from Kashmir are erroneous. Not in Afghanistan fide Wagner et al. 2017.
