Distribution	Hispaniola, Valle de Neiba-Llanos de Azua, and foothills of Sierra Martin Garcia, República Dominicana. Type locality: 2.0 km E La Descubierta, Independencia Province, Republica Dominicana.

Comment	For illustrations see Grant, 1932; Kerster and Smith, 1955; Rivero, 1978. Based on mtDNA sequence differences and allopatry WEISS & HEDGES 2007 elevated the (allopatric) subspecies of P. wirshingi to full species status. Distribution: see map in Weiss & Hedges 2007: 410.
Etymology	Named after the type locality.
