Diagnosis
CommentSynonymy: Sceloporus gratiosus listed by BOULENGER 1897 is actually S. jalapae (fide SMITH et al. 2000).

Subspecies: Sceloporus graciosus arenicolus has been elvated to full species status. Sceloporus vandenburgianus is morphologically similar and geographically close to populations of S. graciosus gracilis (WIENS & REEDER 1997) and actually intergrades with S. graciosus (Applegarth and Banta 1970).

Distribution: see map in Chan et al. 2013.
EtymologyNamed after Latin gratia, meaning "grace," or "graceful," and -osus, "having the quality of," is a judgment of form. The name graciosus is an incorrect transliteration but cannot be changed under the Code.

gracilis: The Latin gracilis means "thin, slender", and Baird and Girard described it as such in comparing it with their Sceloporus graciosus.
