TypesHolotype: BMNH 1946.8.3.70 (formerly 1913.10.31.174), Mimika River, Dutch New Guinea, collected British Ornithologists Union Expedition.

CommentAbundance: only known from the type locality (Meiri et al. 2017). This is one of the species called 'lost' and 'rediscovered' by Lindken et al. 2024. 
EtymologyNamed after Alexander Frederick Richmond (Sandy) Wollaston (1875-1930), British physician, ornithologist and explorer, who led the Wollaston expedition on which this species was discovered. Wollaston later took up a position as a tutor at Cambridge, where he was shot dead by a deranged student. (Glenn Shea, pers. comm., 2 Feb 2024)
