Type locality: hillside of hill dipterocarp forest along Bishop’s Trail, Fraser’s Hill, Pahang, West Malaysia (03° 42.590’ N, 101° 44.236’ E), 1239 m elevation.

DiagnosisDiagnosis: Sphenomorphus bukitensis can be distinguished from all other Sundaland species of Sphenomorphus by the following unique combination of character states: an adult female SVL of 40.5–44 mm; 31–33 smooth, midbody scale rows; 73 or 74 paravertebral scales; 61–74 ventral scales; four supraoculars; parietals contacting supraoculars; prefrontals in contact; two enlarged posterior superciliary scales projecting dorsomedially; two loreal scales; six supralabial scales; five infralabial scales; 12 or 13 keeled, subdigital lamellae beneath the fourth toe; two enlarged, preanal scales; body bands absent; no distinct, dark, dorsolateral stripe; and no light postorbital stripe. Table 1 in GRISMER 2007 compares these character states are compared across all species examined. 
Comment 
EtymologyThe specific epithet comes from the Malay word bukit which means ‘‘hill’’ and refers to the type locality of Fraser’s Hill.
