DiagnosisDiagnosis (genus): The two Malagasy species of Tracheloptychus possess keeled dorsal scales (in contrast to Zonosaurus which have smooth scales), and keeled scales underneath digits (rounded in Zonosaurus) (Recknagel et al. 2013). 
CommentType species: Cicigna madagascariensis GRAY 1831 is the type species of the genus Zonosaurus BOULENGER 1887. See SAVAGE 1954: 332 for details. 
EtymologyNamed after the type locality.
