Type species: Typhlops batillus Waite 1894 is the type species of the subgenus Sheatyphlops Hoser 2013: 48 (subgenus of Libertadictus Wells & Wellington 1984), both junior synonyms of Anilios (fide SHEA 2015).

The species is known only from a single specimen.
EtymologyPresumably named after the Latin batillus (shovel), in reference to the snout shape of the species. (G. Shea, pers. comm., 9 Feb 2024)
