Type locality: "entre Monte Gordo y Vereón, 7 km NNE de Cabo Cruz, Niquero, Granma, Cuba"

DiagnosisDiagnosis: “Una especie de tamaño pequeño (x̅ LHC machos 47 mm; hembras 39.6 mm) perteneciente a la sección beta del segmento cubano del género Anolis, muy cercana a A. homolechis. Colorido dorsal pardo, con dos rayas laterales de la axila a la ingle, seis pares de ocelos triangulares de color negro, alineados a lo largo de la región media dorsal. Pliegue gular de moderado tamaño, con borde blanco, parte anterior amarillo pálido y posterior blanca o amarillo pálido en toda su área (Fig. 5G-H). Iris pardo, escamas en torno a la escama interparietal aquilladas; escamas supracarpales poco aquilladas; escamas medias dorsales pequeñas y aquilladas (x̅ EMD machos 21; hembras 23); escamas medias ventrales mayores que las dorsales, lisas (x̅ EMV machos 13; hembras 12).” (ESTRADA & GARRIDO 1991) 
CommentA. confusus is closely related to A. homolechis and A. jubar of Cuba.

Species group: Norops sagrei species group (fide NICHOLSON et al. 2012). 
EtymologyNamed after the confusing situation of the populations of this species, whose identity remained unclear (until it was described). From Latin cōnfundere (“to pour together; to mix; to confuse”), from con- (“with, together”) +‎ fundere (“to pour”).
