Type species: Hemidactylus sakalava GRANDIDIER 1867: 233 is the type species of the genus Blaesodactylus BOETTGER 1893: 32. 
EtymologyNamed after the Sakalava, a traditional name for an indigenous group of people living in the western parts of Madagascar.
