Phylogenetics: for a phylogenetic analysis of Sub-saharan Natricine genera see Deepak et al. 2021. The closest relatives of the genus are a clade of African Natricinae, which is why we add them to this subfamily but it is possible to assign it to its own subfamily.
EtymologyNamed after the type locality.
