Type locality: “Hab. Tullear. Vita subterranea” (lectotype locality)  
Reproductionoviparous (phylogenetic imputation, fide Zimin et al. 2022) 
TypesLectotype: MNHN-RA 2007.2456, adult male (formerly MNHN-RA 7212A) (SVL 227.0 mm), collected from Macassar, Sulawesi, Indonesia by Dutch naturalists, and donated to MNHN collections by Leiden Museum before 1845, designated by Vogel et al. 2016. Note that Bryggo in his MNHN skink type catalogue indicated MNHN-RA 1460 as lectotype and MNHN-RA 1460A-C as paralectotypes

CommentNo forelimbs but styliform, much reduced hindlimbs; no ear openings visible.

Type Species: Pygomeles braconnieri is the type species of the genus Pygomeles GRANDIDIER 1867. 
EtymologyNamed after Séraphin Braconnier (1812-1844), who worked in the Natural History Museum in Paris. See Bour & Brygoo 2013 for biographical details.
