TypesSyntypes: Lost (Brygoo, 1985). Description based (in part) on literature records by Linnaeus, Gronovius, Gmelin, Seba, Schneider and Laurenti, as well as one specimen in MNHN. 
Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy: Listed as synonym of Scelotes bipes by BOULENGER 1887: 414.

Limb morphology: This species lost its forelimb entirely and retains only one digit on the hind limb. 
EtymologyNamed after Laurens Theodorus Gronovius (1730-1777), or simply "Laurenti", Dutch botanist and ichthyologist (not be confused with Josephus Nicolaus Laurenti).
