ciliaris: N half of Northern Territory to far N Western Australia; Type locality: Port Darwin, Northern Territory.

aberrans: coast of NW Western Australia through arid interior to S Northern Territory, N South Australia, W New South Wales and SW Queensland; Type locality: Mount Wynna, W Kimberly, Western Australia. (Mt. Wynne, fide STORR 1988]

TypesLectotype: BMNH 1946.9.6.87 (D. c. and D. c. c.; designated by Kluge 1967)
Holotype: WAM R2803 [aberrans] 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: A large member of the complex (total length up to 138 mm) with long spines above eye and on tail. Differing from D. C. aberrans mainly in small non-spinose scales on top and side of tail being granular rather than tubercular [STORR 1988: 121].

EtymologyNamed after Latin “supercilium” (eyebrow), drawing attention to the long spines above the eye.

The subspecies aberrans (= deviating) was named in allusion to the tubercular scales on its tail (Storr 1990: 20).
