audouini: Distributed in the west of the species range, Mauritania, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Mali, to NE Sudan (Bons & Girot, 1964). Type locality: “Egypte, Nubie, Tripoli, sud de la Tunisie”; Type locality: Wed El Kreil, Tunisia.

Reproductionoviparous. 
TypesHolotype: probably lost (fide CROCHET et al. 2003).
Syntypes: BMNH 97.10.28.315-319 (Wadi Halfa, Sudan), BMNH 1913.12.30.6-10 (Homs, Tripoli), BMNH 91.5.4.85-91 (Duirat, southern Tunisia), BMNH 1920.1.20.3006 (Wed El Kreil, Tunisia) [audouini], see also SALVADOR 1982. BMNH 1920.1.20.3006 has been selected as lectotype by CROCHET et al. (2003). Type locality: Wed El Kreil, Tunisia. 
CommentHas been confused with A. longipes and A. dumerili. Erroneously reported from Morocco. SALVADOR (1982) synonymized A. inornata with A. scutellatus. Note that the date of publication is AUDOUIN 1827 (not 1809 or 1829 as sometimes stated; see remark in CROCHET et al. 2003: 141). Acanthodactylus scutellatus hardyi HAAS, 1957 is now considered as a valid species.
