CommentDistribution: Range has been restricted due to exclusion of several species like Acutotyphlops solomonis. 
EtymologyNamed after Latin (sub- "below or under" + oculāris "of or pertaining to the eyes" from Latin oculus = “eye”, a reference to the two suboculars in the species.
