Type locality: Namba (Mombolo), Cuanza Sul Province, Angola [Mombolo: 12°10’S, 14°50’E, Missão da Namba: 11°55’ S, 14°51’E); restricted to the northern areas of Mombolo in the vicinity of Missão da Namba by Branch et al. 2021.

DiagnosisDiagnosis (genus): Afroedura species are mostly medium-sized geckos, but range in size from approximately 35–80 mm in adult maximum SVL. The head and body are distinctly flattened. As in all gekkonids, eyelids do not function. Species of Afroedura are usually pinkish or tan in ground color overlain with darker blotches or other markings. Species of Afroedura are distinguished from other geckos by the following combination of characteristics: hyoid with second ceratobranchial cartilages; 14–15 scleral ossicles; stapedial foramen present; frontal single and parietal paired; cloacal bones present; phalangeal formula 2-3-4-5-3/2-3-4-5-4 (manus/pes); paraphalangeal elements absent; eye with vertical pupil having notched margins; digits free, moderate length, dilated throughout, with two or three pairs of adhesive pads along their length, the distalmost pair of pads larger than other pads; claws present, retractable; dorsal scalation consists of small, smooth, mostly uniform-sized granules; preanal pores present; tail fairly long, depressed, tapering, may be distinctly segmented; females lay two hard-shelled eggs (Loveridge 1944, Loveridge 1947, Kluge 1967, Branch 1998, Alexander and Marais 2007, Russell and Bauer 2008).

CommentType species: Afroedura karroica bogerti LOVERIDGE 1944 is the type species of the genus Afroedura LOVERIDGE 1944.

Distribution: see map in Branch et al. 2017: 161, Branch et al. 2021: 57 (Fig. 1), Conradie et al. 2023: 280 (Fig. 3).

Group: The A. bogerti group consists of 7 species fide Conradie et al. 2022: bogerti, donveae, otjihipa, praedicta, pundomontana, vazpintorum, and wulfhaackei. This is a subgroup of the transvaalica group, which also includes transvaalica, loveridgei, and gorongosa. Morphological characters for the bogerti group are summarized in Conradie et al. 2022: 442 (Table 5).
