CommentSubspecies: All previously recognized subspecies of Afroedura pondolia are now considered as a valid species.

Phylogenetics: Busschau et al. 2019 found 4 genetically distinct clades within Afroedura pondolia which may be distinct species.

EtymologyApparently named after the Pondoland area in South Africa, but not expclitly explained by Hewitt 1925.
