DistributionBrazil (W Amazonas, Acre), Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia; 230–1500 m elevation.

Type locality: Ecuador, Napo, Lago Agrio

DiagnosisDiagnosis. Scales on sides of neck very small and granular; gulars in oblique irregular rows; dorsals and scales on flanks rhomboidal, strongly keeled and mucronate; ventrals dis- tinctly keeled, posterior margin pointed [KÖHLER et al. 2012]. 
CommentHabitat: leaf litter of lowland tropical forest

EtymologyNamed after its color, Latin “ater, atra, atrum” = dark or black, and “venter” = belly or stomach.
