CommentSynonymy: after Oftedal (1974). 
EtymologyNamed after the “with three dark brown longitudinal stripes” that Boulenger found in the type specimen, after Latin “vittatus” = ribbon, or decorated by a ribbon, although not all specimens seem to have that stripe.
