TypesHolotype: MCZ 48950.
Holotype: MCZ 67001; paratypes: MCZ, BMNH [newalae] 
DiagnosisDiagnosis. In some ways nearer to B. africana, but distinguished from its geographically nearest relative as follows: 
CommentAncylocranium barkeri (barkeri) is only known from the holotype. 
EtymologyNamed after Ronald de la Bere Barker (b. 1889), a New Zealander who had studied zoology at Canterbury University. The subspecies newalae was named after its type locality.
