Diagnosis
Comment	Synonymy: The original name is preoccupied by Typhlops nigrescens GRAY, 1845. Type species: Typhlops proximus Waite 1893 is the type species of the subgenus Kerrtyphlops Hoser 2013: 47 (subgenus of Libertadictus Wells & Wellington 1984), both synonyms of Anilios (fide SHEA 2015).
Etymology	Presumably named after the Latin proximus (nearest), and a reference to the similarity of this species to other Anilios, a morphologically conservative genus. (G. Shea, pers. comm., 9 Feb 2024)
