Type locality: Finca El Cusuco, 1550 m elevation, 15° 31’ N, 88° 12’ W, 5.6 km WSW Buenos Aires, Sierra de Omoa, Cortés, Honduras.

TypesHolotype: KU 219924 (Museum of Natural History, University of Kansas), adult male from El Cusuco (15°31‘N, 88°12’W), a finca located 5.6 km WSW Buenos Aires, 1550 m elevation, Sierra de Omoa, Depar- tamento de Cortes, Honduras (Fig. 4), col- lected 22 May 1980 by James R. McCranie and Larry David Wilson. Paratypes. KU 219925-30, all adult males, KU 219931-36, all subadult males, KU 219937-47, all adult females, KU 219948-49, all subadult females, all from the type locality, 1530-1720 m elevation.

CommentSpecies group: Norops auratus Species Group (fide Nicholson et al. 2012)

Abundance: only known from the type locality (Meiri et al. 2017). 
EtymologyThe name amplisquamosus is from the Latin words amplus (large) and squama (scale) and the Latin suffix -osus (full of or augmented). The name alludes to the distinctive large dorsal scales of this species.
