EtymologyNamed after Latin rivalis, of the same brook; a neighbor, competitor, rival suitor, rival; adversary in love. [“...The second and smaller species may very appropriately receive the Latin name that means ‘user of the same stream’...”]. (from Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., May 2024)
