DistributionCuba (Sierra del Rosario)

Type locality: Limestone uplands at Ojo de Agua, Cinco Pesos, about 9 km NW San Cristóbal, Pinar del Rio Province, Cuba.  
TypesHolotype: CZACC (= IZAC = IZ) 5368. 
DiagnosisDESCRIPTION: Size large (SVL in males to 170 mm, in females to 157 mm); tail shorter than SVL in adults; tail semiprehensile on posterior one-third; paramedian gular scales long, robust, reaching mandibular symphysis; supralabials usually in contact with circumorbital ring; lateral dorsals large and semioval or rounded, with small interstitial granules; totalloreals 34-55; ventrals relatively small (40-48 in snout-eye distance), conical or pyriform; zone of contact between laterals and ventrals relatively abrupt; posterior expanded portion of casque with relatively large scales; central casque scales between interparietal and posterior casque border relatively large; canthals very stout and raised; auricular opening small and triangular, with superior fleshy tag well developed. Buccal cavity and tongue black, except tip and lower sides of tongue dotted yellow; dorsum gray, with brownish and yellowish scales, without any markings, dots, or vermiculations on casque, labials, or sides of face; dewlap present in both sexes, with about 4 dark gray bands separated by whitish pigment; iris very dark chestnut (almost black in adults, brown in juveniles) (Schwartz & Henderson 1991: 379). 
CommentSynonymy: The genus Chamaeleolis was synonymized with Anolis by Hass et al. (1993). INCERTAE SEDIS: Specimens from Sierra de Trinidad and Villa Clara Province show relationships to this species but represent as yet unnamed taxa (fide SCHWARTZ & HENDERSON 1991).
