Diagnosis
CommentSynonymy: Apostolepis pymi has been removed from synonymy with A. coronata by DE LEMA & RENNER 1998. Elapomorphus nigrolineatus PETERS 1869 is listed as a synonym of Apostolepis flavotorquata by BAUER et al. 1995 although DE LEMA states that “Apostolepis pymi is [...] Apostolepis nigrolineata” (pers. comm.). See also DE LEMA 1997. LEMA & ALBUQUERQUE (2010) synonymized quinquelineatus with nigrolineatus. However, other authors such as CURCIO et al. 2011 or BERNARDE et al. 2012 still treat it as valid species.

Populations of Apostolepis nigrolineata have been described as new species, A. mariae and A. thalesdelemai BORGES-NOJOSA et al. 2016.
EtymologyNamed after Latin niger, nigra, nigrum = black or dark, and linea = stripe or line, referring to the dark lines on the dorsum of the species.
