Comment | Date of publication: Eiselt published his description about 1 month after DIXON & ANDERSON. Distribution: See map in SMID et al. 2014 for distribution in Iran. Synonymy: Kamali et al. 2024 synonymized Asaccus nasrullahi with A. griseonotus based on molecular data. Nazarov et al. 2024 think that the synonym of ingae with griseonotus may be premature but conceded that “further studies are required to clarify the taxonomic status of Phyllodactylus ingae”. However, they also considered Asaccus ingae (Eiselt, 1973) as a valid species, while A. granularis Torki 2010 should most likely be considered as its junior synonym. Similar species: Asaccus nasrullahi has been previously misidentified as Ptyodactylus hasselquisti (WERNER, cited in RASTEGAR-PUYANI 2006). NCBI taxonID: 886396 [nasrullahi] Etymology: A. nasrullahi was named after “Nasrullah Rastegar-Pouyani, in recognition of his contribution to the knowledge of the herpetology of Iran, including the genus Asaccus. Moreover, "nasrullah" means "victory of God" which concept seems appropriate for the survival, discovery and rediscovery of this gecko species” [from WERNER 2006]. |
Etymology | From grise-, modern Latin griseus = gray + Greek notos, not- = back. |
