Type locality: from a mine at Santa Cruz de Cana (± 07º46’N, 77º41ºW, ca. 500 m elevation), province of Darién, Panamá

TypesHolotype: MCZ 28800, adult female, Museum of Comparative Zoology, Harvard University, collected on 1938 by a native worker (photographs examined). 
DiagnosisDIAGNOSIS: Atractus clarki is readily distinguished from other Panamanian species in having a uniformly pale venter, narrow pale dorsal bars, pale dashes on the lower scale rows, and in having a relatively large eye whose length is noticeably greater than its distance to lip and which is contained less than two times in length of the loreal plate. 
CommentOnly known from 2 specimens. 
EtymologyNamed after Dr. Herbert Charles Clark (1877-1960), the first Director of Gorgas Memorial Laboratory, Panama (1929-1954).
