EtymologyNamed after Neil Ellwood Peart (12 September 1952−7 January 7 2020). He was an influential Canadian musician and writer, best known as the drummer and primary lyricist of the un‐ paralleled progressive rock band, Rush. Peart received numerous awards for his amazing musical performances and multifaceted lyrics, including fantasy, science fiction, mythology, and philosophy. Neil Peart was inducted into the Modern Drummer Readers Poll Hall of Fame in 1983, making him the youngest person ever so honored. Para‐ doxally, he was one of the rock pioneers to insert deep re‐ flections on the value of idolatry into his musical approach (e.g., “... but glittering prizes and endless compromises shatter the illusion of integrity ...,” excerpt of lyrics from the song Spirit of Radio from the 1980 album Permanent Waves). His unique drumming style was renowned for its eclectic influence, technical proficiency, and his live per‐ formances presenting accuracy and endurance. Neil Peart experienced an immense personal tragedy with the death of his first daughter and wife and, after a long introspec‐ tive journey (Peart, 2002), he returned to the band in 2001, showing impressive resilience. The penultimate and 19th Rush studio album was named Snakes & Arrows and brings to its loyal fan‐base another piece of their brilliant artwork. We dedicate this species to him for his life ex‐ ample that inspires integrity, commitment, sophistication, and perseverance to generations of rock listeners around world.
