CommentType species: Chalcides dorbignyi DUMÉRIL & BIBRON 1839 is the type species of the genus Bachia GRAY 184.

Diagnosis (subfamily Bachiinae): Bauplan associated with fossorial habits. Body serpentiform, elongate, cylindrical. Four reduced limbs, especially hind limbs, with variable number of digits, some lacking claws. External ear absent; lower eyelid with unsegmented semi-transparent disc. Head scales reduced in number; frontoparietals absent. Ventrals smooth (Colli et al. 201).

Distribution: see map in TEXEIRA et al. 2013: 412. Not in Paraguay (Paul Smith, pers. comm., 27 Apr 2014).
