Synonymy: This formerly widespread (and variable) species was split up into 9 or so species by Arteaga et al. 2024 (including several revalidated names). Unfortunately most of them cannot be easily diagnoses morphologically and thus may need localities and/or DNA sequences for correct identification.

Habitat: forests, fully arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018)

Distribution: B. schlegelii was long considered a widespread species throughout central and norther south America but was restricted to a rather small area in Colombia by Arteaga et al. 2024. See map in Arteaga et al. 2024: 22 (Fig. 3), although the map does not show localities but rather the inferred range. 
EtymologyNamed after Hermann Schlegel (1804-1884), German herpetologist.
