Diagnosis 
CommentHas been added to CITES Appendix I, under which trade is permitted only in exceptional circumstances (CARPENTER & ROBSON 2005). 
EtymologyNamed after L.: per- , prefix meaning “very”; armare (from arma, weapon) to furnish with weapons; -atus/a/um, perfect participle ending: very armed, denoting the profuse spiny scalation (Charles Klaver, pers. comm., 11 Jan 2023).
