Type locality: Redjang, Sumatra. Neotype locality: “Deli, Medan, Sumatra”

TypesNeotype: ZMA.RENA 10237 (Zool Mus Amsterdam) (syntypes lost, fide Marx & Inger 1965) 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: Maxillary teeth modified; third and fourth supralabials entering orbit; preocular present; mental touching anterior chin shields; paraparietals surrounded by 6 shields and scales; ventrals yellow or white except at lateral edges; a continuous dark vertebral stripe. Four of 17 sumatrana have interrupted vertebral stripes. The only species with which these 4 specimens can be confused is margaritophora which is about twice the thickness of sumatrana. Three of these 4 fall outside the range of variation of ventral and subeaudal counts of margaritophora. (INGER & MARX 1965: 182)
