DiagnosisDiagnosis: Rostral well visible from above, the portion visible from above nearly as long as the suture between prefrontals; frontal much longer than broad, the width equaling the distance from tip of snout but shorter than interparietal suture, the suture with supraoculars longer than those with prefrontals; ventrals 158-160; anal entire; subcaudals 15-26. (Maki 1931)

CommentSynonymy: Considered as a synonym of Calamaria pavimentata by INGER & MARX 1965 but listed as valid by the more recent work of MORI 1982 ff. Listed as a synonym of C. pavimentata by WALLACH et al. 2014.

Conservation: endangered in Japan (Ota 2000). 
EtymologyNamed after Georg Pfeffer (1854-1931), curator of zoology at the Natural History Museum in Hamburg, Germany, from 1883-1906 (Hallermann 2007).
