Types | Holotype. CIB-DL20200725, an intact adult female had been crushed to death on the side of the road, collected by Li Ding and Bo Cai on 23 July 2020. Other material examined. Four incomplete specimens: DL20200625-1(male, 26.565 °N 114.165878 °E, 755 m a.s.l.), DL20200625-2 (female, 26.575007 °N 114.161583 °E, 817 m a.s.l.), DL20200625-3 (Subadult, 26.565 °N 114.165878 °E, 755 m a.s.l.), DL20200625-4 (male, 26.584335 °N 114.13504 °E, 962 m a.s.l.), collected from Mt. Jinggang, Ji’an City, Jiangxi Province, China by Li Ding and Bo Cai on 19 and 20 July 2020. |
Diagnosis | Diagnosis: Calamaria jinggangensis sp. nov. can be mainly distinguished from other Calamaria species by the following features: 1) having rostral shield width larger than high, 2) The color of dorsal head and neck coincides with the dorsal body, absence of collar or spots in nuchal region, 3) 1 preocular, 6 paraparietals, 4 supralabials, 5 infralabial, 4) mental not touching anterior chin larger than high, 2) The color of dorsal head and neck coincides with the dorsal body, absence of collar or spots in nuchal region, 3) 1 preocular, 6 paraparietals, 4 supralabials, 5 infralabial, 4) mental not touching anterior chin shields, 5) most of the posterior chin shield meets in the midline, 6) 9 maxillary teeth, 10 palatine teeth, 7) at least 157 to 179 ventral, 12 – 14 (female) or 20 (male) subcaudals, 8) absence of distinct yellow blotches on dorsum, 9) two outermost dorsal scale rows dark orange or orange red (fresh specimen), at least 2nd outermost dorsal scale with upper margins partly dark pigmented, 10) venter immaculate without any dark stripes or spots, 11) dorsal scales reduced to 6 rows above last subcaudal at tail, 12) absence of a dark longitudinal line under of tail, 13) 2 – 3 pairs light color spots at the root of tail present, 14) tail not flatted and not gradually tapering, abruptly tapering at the tip, 15) eye diameter larger than distance from eye to mouth edge (Fig. 2 and Table 3).
