DiagnosisDiagnosis. Caledoniscincus orestes can be distinguished from all other species in the genus by the following combination of features in colour and size: tail with distinctive dark chevrons; dorsum with pale vertebral stripe; snout with dark midrostral streak. (Sadlier 1987)

Habitat: closed forest 
EtymologyNamed after Orestes, the son of King Agamemnon and his wife, Clytemnestra. Clytemnestra murdered Agamemnon, and then Orestes and his sister Electra murdered Clytemnestra to avenge their father.
