DiagnosisDIAGNOSIS: It differs: from C. striatus in the larger size of females, the greater number of dorsal and ventral scales and presacral vertebrae, the dorsal pattern frequency and at 8 out of 33 loci tested (tabs. X and XII, fig. 9); from C. mertensi in the greater number of ventral scales, the dorsal pattern striatus and at 11 out of the 33 loci tested (tab. X and XI, fig. 9); from C. minutus in the larger size, the greater number of dorsal scales and presacral vertebrae, the dorsal pattern striatus, and at 8 out of 33 loci C. chalcides, see the (tabs. X and XI, fig. 9); for the differences from C. chalcides, see section concerning this species. (Caputo 1993)

DESCRIPTION (value for the holotype in brackets) A rather long species of the Chalcides chalcides complex (body length of following characters: head scales the largest specimen, female 1961.204 MNHP: 202.00 mm) (116.64) with the basically as in the diagnosis of the superspecies (see above); limbs short, the anterior and posterior ones representing 4.68-4.72% (x̅ = 4.76 + 0.194) (5.01) and 6.77-6.83% (x̅ = 6.89 + 0.273) (7.33), respectively, of the total length; median toe (III) subequal to IV; 5-7 (x̅ = 5.38 + 0.13) (5/5) subdigital lamellae under the 3rd toe; 24-26 (x̅ = 24.50 + 0.19) (24) dorsal scales; 117-123 (x̅ = 119.20 +.0.34) (118) ventral scales; 60-64 (x̅ = 61.57 + 0.48) (61) presacral vertebrae; tail accounting for 53.82-54.03% (x̅ = 53.92 + 0.13) of the total length (the tail is broken in the holotype); dorsal pattern: concolor (29.00%, n = 14) and striatus (71.00%, n = 14) (striatus in the holotype) (see also tab. VII and figs. 9 and 27 D). (Caputo 1993) 
CommentLargest species of the genus. 
EtymologyFrom Greek “pseudo” = false, and Latin “striatus” = striped, since this species was long mistaken for C. striatus.
